Date: 1945

Dave Packard married Lucile “Lu” Salter in 1938, shortly before the launch of Hewlett-Packard Company. Though her name didn’t appear on Hewlett-Packard Company’s employee rolls, Lucile Packard was critical to the company’s success. She kept its first books and wrote its first ad copy. But more importantly, she did much to shape the uniquely humane company culture for which Hewlett-Packard would become famous. Here, she and Dave danced at a company party put on by the Harmony Plotters, a group of Hewlett-Packard associates who organized recreational activities for the company.
