Date: 1961

In this photo from 1961, HP founders Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett are shown in discussion before Mary Henry’s mosaic mural at the company’s new headquarters. Such scenes were common, as employees and visitors alike often gathered in front of the striking work. Henry’s abstract design, inspired by waveforms and circuit patterns, symbolized the precision of electronics, while the founders’ presence highlighted the partnership between art, technology and leadership. Together, the mural and its frequent role as a backdrop reflected HP’s forward-looking identity at Page Mill Road.
