Date: 2010

Hewlett-Packard’s Wynyard Data Center in Northeast England was designed to work with local conditions to be as energy efficient as possible. The facility used the cold air from the North Sea to cool its servers, collected rainwater through its roof for landscaping and fire protection and used sensors to light server rows only when needed. The facility was estimated to save 40 percent of its energy compared to a traditional data center of equal size.
