Date: 1940s

Bill Hewlett served in the United States Army during World War II, serving most of his stint in Washington, D.C. and rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Dave Packard ran the young company while Bill was serving, but Bill visited when he could. Years later, the two would reverse roles: Bill would run Hewlett-Packard while Dave moved to D.C. to serve as United States Deputy Secretary of Defense.
