Date: September 1989

Hewlett-Packard hosted a beached-themed week-long event benefitting United Way/CHAD (Combined Health Agencies Drive) in September 1989. The company had a long affiliation with United Way, beginning with Bill Hewlett’s work as founder of the Santa Clara County chapter in 1959. Thirty years later, each HP site participated in a local United Way campaign in their city, and the company would match employee contributions up to $5,000.
