Not all printing was on paper. Hewlett-Packard’s LightScribe technology allowed users to laser etch their own designs directly onto data storage CDs and DVDs using optical disc writers. LightScribe faded from the scene as optical discs were superseded by other innovations, but for a time it offered users great customizability at the peak of optical discs. The technology was developed through a joint effort between Hewlett-Packard’s imaging and optical storage divisions.
