Getting a Kick Out of HP Tech
Date: March-April 1998
Katey Kennedy, World Cup ‘98 marketing manager (far right), talked with her Santa Clara-based team about posters to recommend for Spain to create on HP inkjet printers. Hewlett-Packard became the official supplier of IT hardware and maintenance of that year’s FIFA World Cup, providing 2,000 PCs, 132 servers and 600 printers. The equipment helped convey real-time game data to 12,000 journalists scattered across 10 soccer stadiums. The information was also accessible on the HP-powered website, which received 1.52 billion hits during the tournament — and broke the record for most hits in one day with 74 million on June 30.
