Hewlett-Packard acquired the Boonton Radio Corporation in 1959. The company made high-end precision instruments for electronics testing. The company’s oldest instrument was the Q-Meter, first introduced in 1934. This particular model was used for about 30 years by a Rutgers University professor who used it to study nuclear magnetic resonance.
