Date: ca. 1990s

As CEO, Lew Platt was known for his deep commitment to making HP a more inclusive company for women and minorities. Part of that commitment stemmed from personal experience. Platt explained that after the passing of his wife, he was left raising two young daughters. The experience taught him that “things I might have thought were gender-related,” like needing time off to take care of children, “were not about gender at all — but about the role you are thrust into in life.”
