Date: 1993

Eliminating ozone-depleting chemicals from production was one of Hewlett-Packard’s biggest environmental challenges. In 1989, Hewlett-Packard’s facilities used 1.5 million pounds of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Methyl Chloroform (TCA) to clean their electronics products. By the end of 1993, both chemicals had been completely eliminated in favor of the water wash system, which was environmentally friendly — and more effective in the end.
