Computer systems of the 1980s were pricey investments. But Hewlett-Packard’s implementation of reduced instruction set computing (RISC) technology changed the math for enterprise computing. It brought down costs while improving performance, helping to make commerical data processing cheaper and a more viable option for many companies.
