HP Making Inroads in India

Hewlett-Packard’s presence in India began in 1964, but the company’s business in India really began to take off with a company agreement with Blue Star, Ltd. in 1970. Founded as a refrigeration equipment company on the docks of Mumbai (then known as Bombay) in 1943, Blue Star handled all of Hewlett-Packard’s business in India until 1989, when Hewlett-Packard and Blue Star created Hewlett-Packard India as a distinct entity to better realize Hewlett-Packard’s potential in the Indian market. Hewlett-Packard India became independent from Blue Star in 1997.
