HP actively worked to increase the diversity of its workforce through participation in programs with colleges and universities. These programs invited promising women and minority students like MIT student Cheryl Whiteman to intern with HP. The internships provided valuable on-the-job training and technical work experience. Upon graduation, HP considered the students for full-time employment.
