Date: October 1972

HP employees Craig Walter (left) and Lee Thompson volunteered as coaches for a youth football league in Loveland, Colorado. They were part of a group of 16 HP employees who gave time as coaches or board members of the program, which was already in its 10th year by 1972. Among the many reasons for volunteering, one coach said his motivation was to teach his team about good sportsmanship and teamwork. “Some of the kids get a little bitter when they lose,” he said. “I think it is part of our job to turn this bitterness into determination not to make the same mistakes again.”
